I watched Robin Hood today. Read most of the books and seen most of the movies.

I thought it was neat, historical inaccuracies aside.

I'm looking forward to seeing 'Wall Street, Money Never Sleeps' when it's released later in the year. The original Wall Street was an absolute classic and I'm sure it triggered a wave of wannabee Gordon Gekkos across the globe. It'll be great to have a GFC element in the film, you know, to keep it current.

I watched The Lovely Bones last night. It was sh*te.

How can Robin Hood be historically inaccurate? I thought it was myth?

Best movie I've seen so far this year is Zombieland.

Philip II never had an invasion attempt against England. Richard 1 Coeur de Lion died of a gangrenous wound in Normandy, not in a siege and his mother was with him (plus other stuff). Braveheart was similar, a big stretch of history in places to fit artistic licence.

The first recorded workd referancing RH appeared in the 15th century. Myth? Probably more legend on the exploits of more than one man welded into folk hero. http://en.wikipedia....od_and_the_Monk

Fairly good movie with mostly British cast (and Cate and Russell) with fantastic on location scenery and Kevin Costner's American accent wasn't missed.

Shutter Island is really good. You have to pay attention right to the very last minute though

The Road - is good. Very depressing though

The Hurt Locker is well worth a watch.

Oh I get it. It is historical fiction with historical inaccuracies. Gotya.

I forgot that I also enjoyed City Island, an indie film that punches far above it's weight.

If you was hit by a truck and you was lying out there in that gutter dying, and you had one time to sing one song. Huh? One song that people would remember before you're dirt. One song that would let God know how you felt about your time here on Earth. One song that would sum you up. You tellin' me that's the song you'd si...ng? That same Jimmy Davis tune we hear on the radio all day, about your peace within, and how it's real, and how you're gonna shout it? Or... would you sing somethin' different. Somethin' real. Somethin' you felt. Cause I'm telling you right now, that's the kind of song that truly saves people. It ain't got nothin' to do with believin' in God, Mr. Cash. It has to do with believin' in yourself.

Johnny Cash: I got a couple of songs I wrote in the Air Force. You got anything against the Air Force?

Sam Phillips: No.

Johnny Cash: I do.

I watched Me and Orson Welles tonight and enjoyed it quite a lot. I didn't know much about it, nor much about Orson Welles or the other historical characters. Beautifully filmed, top-notch acting (the acting of acting was riveting). It started quite slow but wordy and I had doubts but by the end I cared.

4/5

Warning: I actually liked A Scanner Darkly and Before Sunrise, and this is directed by the same guy, Linklater. Mind you I didn't know that going in so it's not a preconception thing.

=====

Speaking of Before Sunrise, I caught a movie on Foxtel the other day when I was on holidays called In Search of a Midnight Kiss. An indie movie from a few years back that is clearly heavily influenced by the former. It's set in Los Angeles with the deadline provided by New Year's Eve (instead of Vienna/leaving train). Similar themes, similar long, dialogue-driven, single-shot scenes. [okay, after writing this I found the trailer below, and it turns out it's promoted as sharing a producer...]

But to get to the point, it's pretty good despite the rawness. Even when the acting fails to convince it's got something. And it has Okkervil River's music.

3/5

=====

Any comments on Inception?

Oh yeah sorry, I totally forgot I had posted that.

Very interesting, it's a movie where the viewers intelligence could pretty much decide if they enjoy it or not. In a movie like matrix for example, even people who did not really understand the plot can still get some enjoyment bc of the fighting and crazy stunts. That is not the case with inception - I went with 4 mates, at the end of the movie 2 of them said they had pretty much given up trying to understand it after half an hour and it was the worst movie they had seen. The other 2 thoroughly enjoyed the film, and I agreed and thought it was very good.

DiCaprio was fantastic, it had the girl from Juno (who I think is a champ), the plot was the most interesting I have ever encountered in a film and it had one of the craziest fight scenes you will see - zero gravity- even though it was too short (the fight scene). It was well worth a watch, my only criticisms 1) at times its kind of a victim of its own trickyness 2) there are a few pointless characters. BAsically its a movie you "have" to watch if you want to pretend you are a movie buff and talk about the best ever films with your mates. Give it a miss if your gonna smoke weed with some mates and talk sh*t or risk a head explosion.

Watched (a)Men who stare at goats, (b)The Prince of Persia - sands of time and ©Alice in Wonderland.

(a) Alright sort of a film. If you haven't paid $16 for a ticket it is OK to while away a couple of hours. Weird but funny in parts. Had a big name line up. There must be regrets from some of the stars.

(B) Ms clowns idea, a poor impersonation of pirates of the caribbean. Very fast moving, average effects but kids would like it.

© I liked this. Reminded me of Jefferson Airplane. 3D would've been cool.

Can't go past the Errol Flynn version. The guy had an amazing life too. It'd be cool to have a PM like him. :)

LAST MOVIE i saw was inception,. was kinda ok , worth the free ticket price. the subplot was some family drama for the main character that was more interesting than the main plat., and the subplot was kinda pointless and didnt add anything to it.

all in all i would not pay good money for it.
basically every special effect you see in the ads are in the movie.

Laughed more than I have in some time.

Leslie Neilsen is a sad loss indeed. I'm not usually a fan of american humour but this guy was funny.

1. Wait for winter.
2. Turn off the heating system.
3. Get a copy of 'Cold Prey' and 'Cold Prey 2'.
4. Wait for the chill to get into your muscles and bones.
5. Watch the movies and feel like you are part of it.

One of the best flicks I have seen in recent years was Pan's Labyrinth. I watch quite a few and that one stands out.

I thought Blood Diamond was a far better Di'Caprio flick than Inception or Shutter Island - may be the best thing he has ever done and a bit underrated IMO.

Never heard of Cold Prey - is it a horror/thriller thing?

Watched an Ozzie flick the other night called Snowtown - yes, its about Bunting and the SA barrel murders.

One of the best Austrlaian flicks I've seen in a while but be warned, it is very disturbing. It's not overly violent or anything but the bleakness, characters and what they go through is quite depressing. Read on IMDB that film festival screenings are prompting many walkouts, which, if you consider the films subject matter, is actually praise for how effective it is.

On a side not, I'm glad Bunting can't get parole.
