Just watched 60 minutes because they had a bit about those spy cameras for filming animals.

They had a polar bear which:

  • Had a new cub
  • Came out of the den for the first day
  • Cleaned the snow off the spy camera
  • Moved the camera to get the cub in shot
  • Pushed the camera down a hill so it slid and kept the mother and cub in frame
  • Went down and reset the camera to be upright
  • Moved it to have her and her cub in frame as they walk off into the distance

Either it is environmentalist conspiracy or the polar bears worked out they have to give us good footage to stop us f*cking their world over. Completely weird.

It's great to see the polar bears getting some editorial input finally. Actually, come to think of it, what I'd really like to see is polar bears replacing 60 minutes reporters.

The girlfriend tells me that 60 minutes used to be serious journalism. She detests it now but will watch almost anything for good animal stories. Before it they had a story on British anti muslim yobs and Australian anti democracy muslims. Quite tacky.

Many, many years ago they did do quality investigative journalism. They rivaled four corners at one stage. (In fact they poached the best ones from the ABC. George Negus, Richard Carlton* and even Ray Martin. Nowadays, It's a hour long Today/Tonight only more smug. (If that's possible)

I didn't see the story as I can't watch it. It sounds interesting though.

*It's debatable whether RC actually increased the credibility of 60 minutes. He was a divisive figure. He was better than Piers Akerman though. <_<
