Hilarious.

I think any attempt on that angle would be destroyed by the news amalgamation companies like google as they would see the obvious precedent.

When Apple can tell the Australian government to STFU I guess it is obvious what the outcome would be.

Nice to see you back, any chance you could hit the mandatory recipe thread? You don't want to come across as shallow and single minded do you?

BT.
I mention you for the first time in ages, and you suddenly appear.
However, what you raise is worthy of our attention.

Quote

If you are posting a news article from another website, post a summary or short excerpt of the article and just link to the original article. Please don't post the full text of an article from another website.

Perhaps a timely reminder of this. (On the front page of the forum)

As for some suggestion that only 10% of an article is able to be posted according to Australian copyright laws, I would wonder how that is qualified.
Do you have to count the words of an article to ensure you do not post too much?

So for BT was it:

a.) six months in the clink,
b.) six months in the madhouse, or
c.) six month ban from this forum?

As to copyright infringement this forum is compared to the average forum quite rigorously policed around copyright.

Rumpledelf has gone to significant lengths and even warned long term members including some with moderator status for repeatedly posting whole articles. No one is allowed to post whole articles here and further it is not difficult to comply once you get into the habit of it.

Put a few lines in from the article, then put a link to the original article. Given that most MSM sites now automatically generate that link in the quote it is getting easier then ever to comply.

I don't think anyone in the MSM including their lawyers could possibly ask for more than that?

Indeed I would expect the MSMedia would hold forums like this one up and I should add with plenty of others as examples of how it can be done. Such forums demonstrate that where simple rules are followed around copyright a forum community can collectively comply with said laws and not effect the quality of discussions. It shows it is possible to substantively comply with property laws around copyright and still be able to discuss current events and review media coverage.
