My only prediction is that I will save a whole load more now that I am single.

Still working through that, probably going to take a while.

What a bummer of a start to a new year!

Commiserations, tor - I hope you bounce back soon.

Let me know next time you are up in Brisbane and we can have another drunken conversation.

Sorry to hear Tor. At least you are philosophical and moving on.

Gold over $2500 USD I would bet on around $800-$1000, mainly since everything (every potential disaster) is already "priced in"

AUD breaches 75c. My bet is still 1.2 for the USD and 1=1 for EUR.

Happy New Year!!

I'll bet against those predictions of yours via the FX and Futures markets ala 2008/2009 (with stop losses  ). Happy New Year to you.

See my post on China and Iran (and Russia) above. You should post more Spark, your wisdom and insight is missed.

If Global deleveraging of 50-100Trillion dollars is 'priced in' Gold would be over $5000 because their only hope is hyperinflation to avoid deflation and two decades of depression.

As long as you got custody of the kitchen... ;)

But seriously Tor, - Sorry to hear it.

That kind of change is a hell of a shock to the system... go easy on yourself for a while.

Sorry tor.
Relationships are the hardest work on the planet.
I wish you only the very best for the future.

I have the kitchen. Now I just have to work out how to pay for it again. At the moment just throwing myself into work and training and watching movies I have wanted to see but not gotten around to over the past few years.

Best of luck Tor. Must be a huge culture shock for you after all that time. Don't know if I'd cope as well if it happened to me.

Tor-- You know I was kidding last week when I said the wife was up for sale? Seriously though --sorry to hear your news.

My prediction for 2012 is that any prediction I make will be a factor of 4 too soon. For example, I could predict ejection of one or more countries from the EU to happen by the end of 2012. Instead I probably should take that prediction and multiply it by 4 and say that it will happen in the next 4 years. It is similiar to the rule of thumb needed to estimate how long any job will take i.e. actual time=4 x estimated time. Although I suspect that puts me in a divergeing series leading to all jobs remaining incomplete.

My bullet proof prediction for 2012 is that Tor will throw his energies into creating more money spinning projects to either save the world or make his life merrier.

Here's a few:
  • Federal budget deficit this financial year and next.
  • At least half the states to forecast a deficit for 2012-13.
  • At least one state receives a credit downgrade.
  • Roy Morgan unemployment stats to hit 10%.
  • Gold higher YoY.
  • Aussie house prices lower YoY.
  • Iron ore lower YoY.
  • Oil over $200/barrel if there is a USA-Iran war.
  • Commodities in general to continue to decline but remain in secular bull market (with a turnaround in the second half of the year).
  • At least one European country will fail to roll over their debt and require a bailout from ECB.
  • ECB, Fed and BOJ to engage in monetisation programs; the reaction to any massive panic will be to monetise.
  • Somebody, somewhere will try some funny business during the Olympics (something like the Georgian government in 2008).
  • Record deficit in USA as Obama tries to spend his way to election success.
  • The first USA municipality to declare bankruptcy since the "GFC" began.
  • No arrests in MF Global scandal, at most civil charges laid.
  • Significant terrorist attack in Asia.
  • Chinese government turn their guns on their own people.
  • Major corporate bankruptcy in Oz (something of the size of ABC Learning).
  • Electricity prices, health insurance premiums and water rates to rise above CPI.
  • I'll continue to visit this forum and enjoy the contributions from other members of the forum!
