Saw a swimming pool update posted but I think this one from September last year was missed.

PUBLIC land worth $700,000 may end up in the hands of a Hawthorn East resident in what neighbours say is an “unashamed land grab”.

Kaikoura Ave resident Richard Pearse has lodged an “adverse possession” claim for 470sq m of parkland near Gardiners Creek.

Mr Pearse, a former Camberwell councillor, has installed a double driveway, water tank, planted trees and shrubbery and fenced off the public park which is next to his property.

Under adverse possession laws, a trespasser who has been in possession of land for more than 15 years can acquire ownership at no cost.

Rezone the parkland into light industrial land. Or give the parkland back to the local Aboriginal Tribe whom were the original custodians of the land and fund a drop in centre.

Actually upon thinking on it. Was he a councillor when he built onto public land or within the 15 years? If so then surely it’s a corruption case?

If it's public land then he has every right to access and therefore can't be considered a trespasser. Whoever administers the land should charge him for 17 years rent.

He's pretty active in the letters to the editor department.

I liked this one

Just get on with it
RAY Leung, you've hit the nail on the head (Letters, 12/7). At my long post-retirement age, my wife and I still work hard every day and ask nothing from anyone, especially the government. And we provide for ourselves and family via self-made renewables including water, part power, vegetables. I'd like to have meat as well, but the neighbours might object to farm animals in the backyard. As it is, we do well and are happy with our life in this wonderful, blessed country.

Get on with it, those of you who whinge about having to do something a little hard for a change. Stop being self-centred and lazy! Make a contribution for a change and you'll feel doubly good about it. Your children and grandchildren will thank you.
Richard Pearse, Hawthorn East
