Its easy to get your brain around.

  • Foreign owned entities bring cash and dig big holes or buy out local miners;
  • Spin propaganda that its good for you;
  • Employ just 1.8% of locals ongoing and occasional spikes in building projects (like Africa, Asia, South America);
  • Spin propaganda that its good for you and its good for your retirement, all this investment;
  • Export vast amounts of dirt/gas and it makes current account and balance of payments look great despite most profits leaving country;
  • Spin propaganda that its good for you and its good for your retirement, all this investment;
  • Someone asks that you pay a little more tax to keep more than a farthing in this country;
  • Spin propaganda that its Un-Australian to pay more tax and children will go without (no cr*p, a Perth Radio Station was flouting the increase in Mining Tax was going to effect the cost of milk);
  • Remove Democratically Elected Leaders such as Prime Ministers via propaganda;
  • Increase profits via importing pre-fab steel etc from Asia;
  • Spin propaganda that its good for you and its good for your retirement, all this investment;
  • Continue ad infinitum and convince Australians that are going broke and losing jobs they are indeed different to Ecuadorians and Nigerians because "we[insert mining company name] care";
  • The govt now starts to spin propaganda that its good for you and its good for your retirement, all this investment;

When you are, or are acquainted with homeless as we join Ireland, say "We are a lucky country, thank god for mining".

Staringclown:

No 13 globally in overall GDP
http://en.wikipedia....tor_composition

15th globally as 'services' as a percentage of GDP (70.5%)

11th globally in sheer size of the 'services' sector ($872,256,000,000USD nominal).

BTW 'mining' comes the 3.9% of GDP or Agricultural (actually 'primary') component...
http://en.wikipedia....cultural_sector

Hmmm 3.9% to 70.5%

Yesterday as I was waving my chinese made australian flag, eating my american cheezymite 2.0 sandwiches, swilling my anglo south african fosters and watching the prime minister being used as battering ram something didn't feel right. Then as I swilled some more I was comforted by the thought that the age of leisure would soon be upon us all. No one in this country would need to work for a living anymore. Our amazing lifestyle would be supported by property prices making us all millionaires within the next few years. Personally I can hardly wait. :)
