I wish the ABS would publish graphs as gifs! It is not as simple as having an aggregate figure for "households" ABS have split them up into income levels. Can't weight the percentages without overall numbers in each category. There is a bit more info on wage distribution on the link.

I agree it would be a good reference for what often gets raised in other threads, and we often get conflicting information.
I applaud your foresight.

That was the idea - have the first post updated and people who can't actually edit the first post tack extra information at the end. People are always bickering over these figures so I just wanted them all in one place for easy reference.

here are some updated info for the median age of an australian:
"The median age (the age at which half the population is older and half is younger) of the Australian population has increased by 4.8 years over the last two decades, from 32.1 years at 30 June 1990 to 36.9 years at 30 June 2010. Between 30 June 2009 and 2010 the median age remained relatively steady at 36.8 years" - it's from the ABS @ http://www.abs.gov.a...@.nsf/mf/3201.0

what do the other 8% of households do?
Does anyone know (round a bout) how many residential houses there are in Australia?
Saw RP has a number around 280k for sale nationwide ATM (150k in cities) and was thinking that if there are 22mil people and we live around about 2.5 people per house, then it means we need around 900k houses. if 300k are for sale, is that 20-30% of what we need? Seems like a lot to me. And all those places for sale, if they get sold, will have to effect the above stats somehow.
Or do we just have 20 odd % more houses than what we need?
