  1. Phrasing!!!

    01 May 2012 - 05:42 AM

A political commentator of some stripe just said "I have just spent a lot of time in Myanmar with young women..."

    righto.
  2. Coalition change of tactics?

    27 April 2012 - 01:46 AM

Just watching Abbott talking about immigration policy on ABC24.

There was a couple of minutes about "turn the boats back" which I kind of tuned out as it is boring. But for the last 10 minutes or so he has been saying "bring them furriners in". He even stressed how awesome they are at being australian because, unlike natives, they have chosen to be here.

I got a cynical moment where I thought "well he must be a good politician because he is leader of the party which kind of proves he is good at it. In his place how would I placate the xeno's whilst setting up a program of bringing in all the people we need to replace the useless buggers we have"

All things being equal I would give that kind of speech which has lots of numbers in it which will send the xeno's to sleep after they heard the bit about "we'll send the boats back" followed by lots of numbers for the smart people to hear about how we need those furriner skilled people and their families. He even went on at length about the families and their participation rates for employment under the various regimes.

I think Turnbull might be in trouble if this is how smart Abbott is going to play the game. Maybe Abbott got some new advisors or maybe it has only just started to matter or something.

    Anyway was weird.
  3. Cool Engineering

    http://www.geek.com/...t-air-20120418/

A turbine condensing water from desert air. I think I have seen a few of these over the years and there are always questions regarding the real world implementation as they do seem a little bit "perpetual motion" but this one has apparently had a 6 month prototype so it could be good.
  4. f*ck this country

    27 March 2012 - 03:18 AM

So I have been supportive of me paying lots of tax for the breeders and the racists and incompetents of this country for a long time, this has been one of my main arguments against property taxes; it would mean I would pay less tax.

However after a separation with my girlfriend of 12 years I have discovered that if she doesn't work and I do work 12 - 16 hrs a day the courts regard our financial input as equal.

I have also discovered that if you pay your tax a year late and have lots of income they charge you 75K fines in lateness. Even if you paid 100K in provisional tax during that period.

I was okay with paying 200K a year in taxes. I was okay with not being able to claim any of my free work for charities against my tax. I was okay with writing off all my invoices for start ups that failed.

I figured that I should contribute to the country I am living in.

Now I figure f*ck it, I am going to move everything to a low company tax place where I don't have 12 years of work taken from me for trivial reasons.

Yes I should have done my end of year taxes a year ago but with the relationship break up slowly going through the thought of doing that was a painful thing and at the time I pretty much avoided anything painful but I paid my provisional taxes and gst and all that crap.

So anyone know how I can transfer everything out of this country and into another because you guys can just have your breeding payments for white kiddies and all of your happy whingey lives of how "things could be better if they would only make me better off" and I just am not going to pay for it any more if you are going to f*ck me over this badly.

I am happy to pay cash or gold because f*ck it this sh*t is going to bankrupt me anyway and if I can burn the house down and declare bankruptcy then start my life anew somewhere else it can't be any worse for me than staying here.

(I have been drinking quite a bit since speaking to the family law person and the accountant today but at the moment f*ck the lot of you, my company is leaving and you can all pay more taxes as a result)
  5. Kickstarter

    20 March 2012 - 05:56 AM

For those that have not been exposed.

    http://www.kickstarter.com/

A hilarious way to spend lots of money on startups :)

    My favourites so far:

http://www.kickstart...gularity-and-co (going to have to find a New Yorker to use the library but I am going to keep the T shirt)

    and

http://www.kickstart...human-resources (I made a comics guy come to my house)

For the rest of you with a dollar or two to waste go forth and find new cool things. Post links to said cool things.

I am not sure if it is just my time working at startups but I find this whole idea wildly fascinating.

Tor is trouble when he is drunk. Which is most of the time when he is posting on forums. Don't even think about arguing with Tor, you won't win.
